Ten-lakh female babies killed in womb: Minister
Tirumala, July 5(UNI) Minister of State of Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhary today said every year ten-lakh female babies were killed at foeticide level in the country and such cases were reportedly occurring more in North India.
Talking to newspersons here, she said in view of the foeticides, the sex-ratio was imbalanced and boys in Rajasthan were marrying girls from Kerala, due to shortage of would-be brides in their State. Ms Chowdhary said Child Organisation Committee was formed to protect the abandoned children. Many people were inclined to adopt female children due to their dwindling strength of late, she added.
The minister was received at the temple by Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam(TTD) officials on her arrival.
She offered worship to Lord Venkateswara tonight.
After an overnight stay at hill atop, she will participate in the morning rituals at the temple. She will leave for Hyderabad tomorrow afternoon.
