Varanasi, July 5 (UNI) ''No booze or beer'' near places of worship seems to be the latest mantra of the Shiv Sainiks in this temple city.

A group of Sena activists today demonstrated in Bhelupur area demanding the immediate closure of an India Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) shop in the Jawahar Nagar Colony.

Led by district party president Gulshan Kapoor, the saffron brigade demanded the closure of the liquor shop and warned the party will not let any booze or beer shop operate in residential areas, especially near places of worship.

''Besides being a posh locality, the Colony also has in the vicinity three temples, ISCKON temple, Gurudham temple and Murkatta Baba temple. No liquor or beer shop should be allowed to operate in such localities,'' Mr Kapoor demanded.

Later, the Sena activists also handed to Circle Officer (Bhelupur), a memorandum addressed to District Magistrate Beena Kumari Meena, demanding the cancellation of licence to the concerned liquor shop.

Recently, the same saffron brigade had forced the closure of a liquor shop in Jaitpura area of the city as it was located near a temple and a mosque.

''Be it a temple or a mosque we will not allow any liquor shop to be run near any of the places of worship in the religious city,'' Mr Kapoor said.

The Sena leader also said a list of shops located near temples and other places of worship, besides residential areas is being drawn to carry forward the movement against booze and beer in the holy city.
