PM opposes targeting of communities while dealing with terror
New Delhi, July 5 (UNI) A day after speaking with British Premier Gordon Brown, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said communities should not be targeted while dealing with terrorism and the world should not remain stereotyped regarding Muslims, Non-Muslims and the likes.
Speaking to women journalists who called on him at his 7-Race Course Road residence here, the Prime Minister said the labelling should best be avoided.
His comments assumed significance in the wake of the detention of three Indian doctors from Bangalore, allegedly involved in last weeks' terrorist incidents at Glasgow and in London.
Replying to a question, the Prime Minister said he had spoken with the British Prime Minister yesterday and offered all possible help in the investigations. India was in touch with the British government, he added.
Calling for avoiding the labelling of persons as terrorists, Dr Singh said terrorists had no particulaar religion or nationality.
The world should not remain stereotyped regarding Muslims and non-Muslims and such others and should develop a sense of tolerance and understanding. They should be allowed to lead a life of dignity, the Prime Minister added.
