Patil meets relatives of flood victims in Amravati
Nagpur, July 5 (UNI) Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil today met the relatives of the 14 persons, who were swept away by a gush of water from a river in a village in Anjangaon-Surji tehsil of Amravati district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra during the recent spell of rains.
Mr Patil also handed over the compensation cheques to the relatives in Jawala (Budruk), the village where the tragedy occurred last Sunday, according to an official release here.
Later, he visited the inmates of a relief camp set up in the village.
All the 14 persons were swept away as they were crossing a field while returning home after spending several hours on a nearby hillock to escape the fury of the rains.
