Increase in property tax recovery this year: Gupta
New Delhi, July 5 (UNI) Claiming that the online system for depositing property tax introduced this year had proved successful, MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta today said the recoveries by way of property tax this year were more compared to last year.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Gupta said upto June 30 this year, total property tax recovery was to the tune of Rs 392 crores which is Rs 55 crores more as compared to Rs 337 crores collected last year.
In all, 5,06,874 property tax payers had filed their returns and deposited property tax. Of these, about 1 lakh property tax payers had paid their property tax online.
The Chairman said that as compared to previous years, this year various government agencies had deposited their tax before June 30.
This year, Rs 20 crores were received from various agencies which include Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Delhi Transco, Delhi Jal Board, MTNL, BSES, Rajdhani, Videsh Sanchar Nigam, B S E S Yamuna and Delhi University. This was an all time record, he said.
Mr. Gupta said the Property Tax Department of the MCD was preparing a database which would enable identification of properties which are under the taxnet but their owners are not paying the property tax.
''When this database is prepared, the record of property tax deposited by every property tax payer and such properties who's owners have not deposited property tax eventhough their properties are under tax net, could be identified on a click of button,''he said.
