Hot, humid conditions prevail in Punjab, haryana
Chandigarh, Jul 5 (UNI) Hot and humid conditions prevailed in the plains of Punjab and Haryana following increase in the mercury even as rain lashed many parts of North-West region since last night.
While there was no rainfall activity reported from Punjab, certain areas in Haryana expreienced light rain. The southwest monsoon has already advanced into the remainig parts of the twin states.
Moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers will occur at many places in Haryana and light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh during the next 24 hours, the Met Office said. It warned of heavy rain at isolated places in the hilly state.
In Punjab, the mercury soared at many places in the absence of rain. Amritsar recorded 37.0 degrees, Ludhiana 36.2 degrees and patiala 37.1 degrees celsius.
In Haryana, Ambala, Hissar, and Rohtak were pounded by light rain but temperatures kept up in the state.
Moderate to heavy rain lashed mid and lower hills in Himachal Pradesh with Suni turning the wettest place, recording 57.5 mm till morning. Rampur measured 41.4 mm. Bhuntar, Sundernagar, Kasol and Shimla also had rainfall.
Chandigarh and its adjoining areas were also lashed by downpour with the city recording 9.2 mm rain overnight. Humid conditions prevailed in Chandigarh following showers.
