New Delhi, July 5 (UNI) The Delhi University's third cut off list, which reistered a drop of .25 per cent to 5 per cent, has offered a glimmer of hope to many admission-seekers.

Particularly for candidates wanting to secure a seat in the Science stream, which in the recent years has lost out to Commerce and Humanities, the dip in the benckmark is considerable.

Many top of the line colleges-- Hans Raj, Kirori Mal, Ramjas and Sri Venkateswara-- offering science have brought down the aggregate to ensure that students still find the courses attractive.

For Physics (Hons), Hans Raj requires 84 per cent, Kirori Mal 82.66 per cent, Ramjas 80 per cent and Sri Venkateswara 85 per cent.

For Chemistry (Hons), Hans Raj seeks an aggregate of 78 per cent, Kirori Mal 75.33 per cent, Ramjas 74 per cent and Sri Venkateswara 77.33 per cent.

Scores of students are making a beeline for the science programmes as admission to popular courses in Commerce and humanities has been closed.

''We are very happy that at least the cut off has been brought to a realistic level... all students who apply in DU have not scored 95 per cent or above,'' said Shruti Mathur who made it to the merit list of Kirori Mal college for her first choice of subject-- Physics (Hons)-- with 83 per cent.

''I was not interested in pursuing an Arts course just because my score was slightly less... The third list has saved my career,'' she added.

And for Sujaun Choudhary, who has come all the way from Calcutta to study in the DU, the wait for the third list has been worthwhile.

''I secured 84 per cent and wanted to get into the Physics (Hons) but the cut off in the first and the second list were too high...I could not make it,'' said Sujaun was had secured a seat in Hans Raj college.

As expected, almost all elite colleges did not declare the third list for B Com (Hons) and Economics (Hons) programmes, barring Hindu and Ramjas Colleges.

Humanities courses also registered a drop of .25 to 1 per cent.

While for B Com (hons) the minimum mark required in Hindu is 93.25 per cent, .5 per cent less than the second list, for Bachelors degree in Economics it stood at 89.5 per cent, dipping by 1 per cent.

In Ramjas, B Com (Hons) still requires 91.75 per cent and Economics 87.5 per cent, .5 per cent less than the second list.

Similarly, Hans Raj, Kirori Mal and IP colleges did not disappoint students wanting to secure seats in the most sought after course -- B.Com (Hons) with the cut off of 93.5 per cent, 93 per cent and 90.25 per cent respectively.

The fourth and the final cut off list will be declared on July 10.

University officials have advised the candidates to contact the respective Colleges and complete the admission formalities between July 6 and 9.
