Bihar government gears up to meet challenges of natural disasters

Patna, July 5 (UNI) The Bihar government has made elaborate arrangements to tackle natural disasters by raising a force of trained youths at village level.

Secretary of the State Disaster Management Department Manoj Srivastav told newspersons here that about 180 flood-prone villages have been selected to raise the contingent of trained youths to tackle the rescue and relief operation.

A team of National Disaster Response force has arrived here to train the civilians to scientifically manage the situation arising out of natural calamities, he added.

With a view to raising the micro-level disaster management group to tackle the natural disasters, five people from every village would be imparted special training and subsequently they would train the villagers, he added.

Moreover, a selected group of Professors from three Engineering Colleges of Bihar would undergo training at IIT, Mumbai, about the latest technologies for construction of earthquake-resistant buildings, Mr Srivastav informed.

Mr Srivastav said that after completion of their training at IIT, Mumbai, engineers would be sent to Structural Engineering Research in Chennai for specialised training.

Seven professors of the three engineering colleges of the state have already undergone training about the earthquake-resistant technologies at IIT, New Delhi.
