Badal finalises a plan for upgradation of medical colleges in Punjab

Chandigarh, Jul 5 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today finalised a plan for long term improvement of medical education institutions in the state.

The Chief Minister at a high level meeting put in place a perspective plan for medical education sector that would take care of upgrading the institutions, keeping in view the requirement of next 25 years.

The meeting was attended by Medical Education and Research Minister Tiksan Sud, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sital Singh, PGIMER Director, Dr K K Talwar and State Planning Commission Vice-Chairman, Dr J S Bajaj.

The Chief Minister constituted a Coordinating Committee, headed by him, to monitor the implementation of this plan for every medical college in the state. This Committee would take stock of the implementation of various projects in different medical colleges, including Baba Farid Medical University, in the State.

Mr Badal also set up a Steering Committee under the Chief Secretary to ensure that prestigious Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences, Jalandhar, gets completed within one year.

The committee would visit each medical college in the state and draw a blue print for their upgradation, infrastructure improvement, human resource upgradation and optimum utilization of existing land available with them.

The Chief Minister directed that all medical colleges should focus on vertical growth as land for expansion of existing medical Institutions would not be available. It was decided to invite expression of interest from the reputed mMedical colleges of the state for entering into joint venture with them.
