Asom CM winds up US visit after meeting investors
Guwahati, July 5 (UNI) With an eye on attracting investors to Asom, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had meetings with local and expatriate investors in New York, Boston and Washington DC before winding up his week-long US visit.
Official sources here today said Mr Gogoi met investors from different sectors like hydrocarbon, power, healthcare, food processing, education, tourism, insurance, real estate and IT in New York and discussed the possibilities of investment in the state.
A presentation was made on behalf of the state to highlight the investment potential in different sectors and incentives available under the new NEIIPP, while queries regarding the law and order problem were taken up.
Among the noted investors, who called on the Chief Minister, were Bharat Sahgal of Vedanta Energy Fund, Jaswant Lalwani, Curtis Winsor of Dynamotive, Karan Trehan of Ankar Capitals and Bobby Avary of Tri-Steel International.
The Vedanta Energy Fund is understood to have showed interest in reviving the abandoned and low yielding oil fields and extraction of heavy oils using the latest technologies.
Mr Lalwani was keen on starting a series of dignity lifestyle heritage homes at different places in the state.
The Chief Minister, flanked by some top officials of the Asom government, also had a meeting with former US Ambassador to India Frank Wisnor and discussed matters relating to various socio-political issues and eco-friendly policies, pursued by the state government.
The Science Barge of New York expressed its desire to explore the possibility of setting up similar pilot projects in Asom to utilise the state's huge water resources.
In a meeting with the Chief Minister, deputy chief of Indian Mission in Washington DC RS Jassal suggested that the Asom government might organise a festival to showcase the state's unique and diverse culture, tourism potntial, investment possibilities in the USA in association with ICCR.
Mr Gogoi started his next lap with similar objective in the United Kingdom.
