Tripura plans to be an education hub: CM

Agartala, July 4: The Tripura government plans to turn the state into an education hub by offering multi-dimensional courses to students of the country and abroad, said Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.

Mr Sarkar said besides, upliftment of Tripura University to the status of central university, two more colleges Tripura Institute of Technology and Tripura Agriculture College are all set to start operation from this year.

The state government has launched Diploma courses in Computer Application (DCA) and Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA) in two general degree colleges to popularise computer education.

''We are trying to provide even technical education facility to the poorest section of the society and keeping this in mind, the government approved a nominal fee structure for the technical and professional courses in the government institutions,'' he said.

The government institutions have the provision of seat reservation for students from other states and in the near future Bangladeshi students could also get entry in the colleges through the union human resource ministry, he added.

Commenting on the Medical Council of India's (MCI) report of two medical colleges of the state he said, ''I am very much hopeful that centre will allow the authority to continue the session, as our officials are in close contact with the ministry.

'' Mr Sarkar said according to the decision taken during the NDA regime five to seven per cent infrastructure deficiency in medical colleges in main land states and 15 per cent deficiency in NE states would be overlooked.

The MCI report had stated that altogether 64 Medical colleges in the country, including two of Tripura, were lagging behind in the benchmarks laid out by the centre and MCI team disagreed to allow the authority to run the course in this year.
