AP: Villagers affected by food poison
Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, July 4: About 800 residents of Bukkapuram village in Guntur district fell ill after consuming ''chalimidi'', a sweet, distributed traditionally during marriage functions, last night.
According to official sources, about 30 patients were admitted to the government hospital in Narsaraopeta and about 40 were being treated at Chilakaluripeta government hospital.
Hospital sources said they were out of danger. The rest of them had mild symptoms.
The Government had opened two temporary clinics in the village.
The marriage parties distributed ''chalimidi'' a mixture of jaggery, rice flour and spices, to every household in the village, last night after the marriage ceremony on Monday.
