Yediyurappa gheroed for release of water in the Cauvery

Mysore, July 3 (UNI) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa was gheroed for a brief period by farmers in Mandya today protesting against the release of water from the Krishnaraja Sagar to Tamil Nadu.

Mandya district also witnessed road blocks at several points and in Mysore protests were held in front of the Command Area Development Authority (CADA) office by a group of people, led by Legislator M K Somasekhar, who claimed that the government had issued directions to the reservoir authorities to release water from the reservoir. The inflow into the K R Sagar has gone up substantially following copious rains in the catchment area. The protest however was withdrawn following an assurance from the CADA authorities.

Mr Yediyurappa speaking to newsmen here said that the government had told the authorities to release water from the reservoirs only after the danger levels were reached. A meeting of KR Sagar officials would be held soon, he added.

Referring to the flood situation in the State, Mr Yediyurappa said the government would seek central relief for rehabilitation of people affected in the flooded areas.

He said he has been in touch with the situation of the floods in the state and instructions have been given to all the Deputy Commissioners of the various districts where the damges occurred due to rains. The flood relief issue would also be discussed during the assembly session commencing from July 5 and necessary steps already been initiated to take immediate compensations to the affected people in the flood affected places in the districts.
