Two prime accused in blast case surrender

Karur, July 3 (UNI) Two prime accused in the blast which killed Sivaganga Municipal Chairman P Murugan on Friday last, surrendered before a local court here this afternoon.

Police said G Balachandar (34) alias Bala, an electronic engineer, and Manthkalai alias Kumaran, a DMK Councillor, had surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate-I Anandan after evading arrest since the incident, which occurred on June 27.

Balachandar is suspected to have designed the explosive device with a remote mechanism.

Murugan was killed, when a remote-controlled bomb planted in his car went off near the Municipal Office at Sivaganga in Madurai distict. The blast had also left many injured.

Political rivalry was said to the reason of the murder, police added.

The Madurai police had registered a case against Kumaran and another DMK Councillor K S M Manimuthu, in connection with the bomb blast.
