Tribal killed in police firing

Jhabua(MP), July 3 (UNI) Police today lobbed teargas shells to disperse a group of agitated tribals who staged demonstration carrying the body of a tribal, who was killed in police firing at Sapda village near here last night.

Tension prevailed at the village and additional police force deployed as the villagers wanted to take the body for staging demonstration in front of nearby Antarvelia police outpost.

Police said Ramesh was killed as a police jawan's rifle went off accidentally while the villagers attacked two constabes, who reached the village to probe into a complaint of cow slaughter.

On the other hand, the tribals claimed that police opened three round firing and demanded that a case be registered against the police jawans.

District Collector Rajkumar Pathak, who visited the village, ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The administration was trying to persuade the villagers to conduct the last rites, he said.

Congress leader Kalawati Bhuria also reached the village.
