Traders in pre-1962 colonies to be refunded their Conversion charge

New Delhi, July 3 (UNI) Traders having their units in pre 1962 colonies will soon be refunded the amount deposited by them as conversion charge and parking fee by the MCD.

This information was given to newspersons here by Deputy Leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Delhi pradesh BJP chief Harshvardhan and MCD Standing Committee member Vijender Gupta said in a joint press conference here.

Prof Malhotra also demanded that the Centre either completely abolish heavy conversion charge and parking fee imposed on the traders and other professionals of Delhi or provide relief to all by depositing only a token money as a one time charge.

Speaking on the occasion, MCD Standing Committee chairman Vijender Gupta said traders having their units in pre 1962 colonies should apply for the refund of their conversion charges and parking fee which would be done soon.

The areas coming in this category include those like Chandni Chowk, Mori Gate and Lajpat Rai Market.

Prof Malhotra said the Union Ministry for Urban Development delayed the fixation of conversion charge.

''The Master Plan 2021 was notified on November 20. After that, the Ministry took more than six months to announce rate of conversion and parking charges under mixed land use.

The people were given time to deposit it only by June 30. As a result, they had to face great difficulty,''Prof Malhotra said.

The number of people who had to deposit the fee is in lakhs and they were given only five-six days for it during which it was impossible for all the people to deposit the charges.
