Tata group evinces interest in Nagpur SEZ

Nagpur, July 3 (UNI) The Tata Group has evinced keen interest in setting up a unit in the multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZ), coming up near here.

Tata Automobiles Solution, a group company engaged in the manufacture of automobile and aircraft spare parts, wants 30 acres of land in the SEZ, Maharashtra Airport Development Company Limited (MADC) Vice Chairman and Managing Director R C Sinha told UNI.

A team from the company would visit Nagpur to inspect the site within a day or two, Mr Sinha said.

The SEZ is being set up as part of the proposed Multi-modal International Air Passenger and Cargo Hub at Nagpur (MIHAN) project, being implemented by MADC near here. Aviation major Boeing Inc has decided to set up a maintenance, repairs and overhaul (MRO) hub here, and has assured that work on the project would begin shortly.

Boeing had taken physical possession of the 75 acres of land that it needed to set up the MRO hub, an official of MADC said. The company was now preparing the blueprints that it would submit to MADC for approval soon, the official said.

Among the companies that have already decided to set up operations in the MIHAN SEZ are Satyam Computers Pvt Ltd, Wipro, L&T Infocity, HCL Technologies, Shapoorji Pallonji and Co Ltd, Ascendas Pte Ltd, Max Aerospace and Ispat Industries Ltd. The Central government notified the SEZ in May last.
