Sugar-free cakes to hit Kerala market
Kochi, July 3: In an effort to satisfy the sugar-craving palates of diabetic and health-conscious people, Hyderabad-based Index Therapeutics Private Limited along with Bakers Association of Kerala will introduce sugar-free cakes in the Kerala market.
Speaking to reporters here today, Index Therapeutics Managing Director P F Johnson said the sugar-free cakes would be made of sucralose, a natural substitute of sugar.
''Sucralose, made from natural sugar, is six times sweeter than sugar and will be added to the products after certain specific treatments,'' he said.
The susbtitute, imported from the US, was good for diabetic patients as it did not contain any calories, Mr Johnson said.
''Intake of sugar will adversely affect the general health of the diabetic patients as one gram of sugar contains four calories,'' he explained.
Association President P M Shankaran said the products would be available at select bakeries across the state from July 5.
