Students stage dharna for basic amenities
Puducherry, July 3 (UNI) Students of the Singaravelar Government Higher Secondary School and Primary School at Veerampatinam, near here, today abstained from classes and resorted to a dharna in front of the school to press their demands.
They were demanding the provision of basic amenities and spacious class rooms in the school and were protesting against the failure of the administration to provide tsunami incentives to a section of the students in the school. The students were supported by Councillor Sakthivel and office bearers of the fishermen panchayats.
Chief Education Officer Krishnaraj and Thasildhar Yaswanthiah pacified the students and assured them that they will bring the director school education to the school tomorrow to redress their frievences following which they called off their strike.
