President returns Electricity Amendment bill to WB Assembly

Kolkata, Jul 3 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam has returned the Electricity (West Bengal Amendment) Bill, 2005 to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly for reconsideration.

Disclosing this to mediapersons here today, Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim said the President has urged Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi that the bill be returned to the State Legislature for its reconsideration and three of its clauses be deleted.

A statement from the Governor in this regard, copies of which were released to the press by Mr Halim, said, ''I do return the Electricity (West Bengal Amendment) Bill 2005 to the West Bengal Legislature requesting the House to reconsider the Bill and delete the clauses 6, 18(3) and 19 of the Bill.'' The Electricity (West Bengal Amendment) Bill 2005 was passed by the State Assembly and was presented to the Governor under article 200 of the Constitution.

The Governor has reserved the bill for consideration of the President under the said article 200 of the Constitution.
