Orissa DGP challenges arrest warrant

Jaipur, July 3 (UNI) Oriss DGP B B Mohanty, who is accused of helping his rape convict son Biti Mohanty jump parole, has challenged the non-bailable arrest warrant issued against him.

DGP Mohanty's counsel Premi Chittaranjan Pradip Sharma while producing a petition in ACJM (no. 2) yesterday said while Sections 120 and 216 of IPC filed against his client are bailable, Section 225 under which he is charged is non-bailable.

Instead of Section 225, senior Mohanty should be charged under Section 225-B which is bailable, he added. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for July 7.

Section 225 deals with provisions of punishment for those who put obstacles in nabbing convicts or help them jump paroles.

DGP Mohanty is accused of helping his son jump parole, who was sentenced to seven years imprisoment for raping a German student in Alwar in 2006 by a fast track court.
