Officers held on bribery charges

Tiruchirapalli, July 3 (UNI) The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) of Tamil Nadu Police today arrested two ministerial staff, including an official attached to the Office of the Commissioner of Police, here on graft charges.

Talking to UNI, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DVAC) Tiruchirapalli, R Ambikapathy, who led the operation, said Anthony Raj, a police constable working in Nagapattinam of the Central Zone, had lodged a complaint with the DVAC alleging that the ministerial staff attached to the Commissioner of Police, had demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 for expediting his promotional procedure.

The team had laid a trap by handing over the demanded amount to S Rajkumar (30), an Office Assistant, at a tea shop near the Police Commissionerate at Mannarpuram area in the city and caught him red-handed.

During interrogation, he confessed to the involvement of R Rajendran, the office superintendent. They had decided to share the bribe amount, with Rs 1,500 for Rajendran.

The team raided Rajendran's residence at Old Circuit House Colony here and seized some incriminating documents and Rs three lakhs in cash.

The team might raid the house of Rajkumar also.
