NBA leaders meet Narmada Valley Minister

Bhopal, July 3 (UNI) A three-hour-long discussion took place between Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leaders and Madhya Pradesh Minister of State for Narmada Valley Development Nagendra Singh today over issues related to rehabilitation of the displaced of Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar dams.

NBA Spokesperson Alok Agrawal told reporters here that all the issues were discussed in detail with Mr Singh, who assured that he would talk to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan after gathering information from concerned officials in this regard.

He said Mr Singh patiently heard all issues pertaining to rehabilitation of displaced and the NBA's viewpoint.

NBA's Chitrupa Palit and Bhagwat Mukati were on fast unto death since past 28 days over these issues. The fast, which started on June 6 in Khandwa, was being continued in Bhopal since June 30.

Mr Agrawal said about 60,000 families had been affected due to the two dams. Several hundred families had not been rehabilitated till now.

He added that the condition of Mr Mukati and Ms Palit was not good. They had lost 11 kilos and eight kilos weight respectively.
