Monsoon in active phase in Uttarakhand: Weather Department

Dehradun, July 3 (UNI) With Monsoon in its active phase in Uttarakhand, most of the areas in the state were lashed with heavy rain today.

Capital city Dehra Dun too received a good amount of rain.

Director of the Weather Department Anand Sharma said that due to Southernly Wind, most of the Yamuna catchment received rain and moisture. He said that Monsoon was now in an active phase in Uttarakhand and heavy rain is expected in coming days.

He said that the considering the expected heavy rain, the Weather Department has urged the farmers specially producing potatoes, Ginger and Sugarcane to arrange for the water exit in their fields to avoid damage to their crops.

Meanwhile a Nepali labour (couple) died after being buried alive in their tin hut due to a mudslide in Uttarakashi district. District Magistrate Meenakhsi Sundaram said that two more persons were trapped in mud slide at Bhailoda Village but were rescued. Meanwhile Gangotri- Delhi National Highway was reportedly disrupted following inclement weather.
