New Delhi, July 3 (UNI) Moderate showers today hit Delhi, cooling down the city and ending the dry spell since the onset of the monsoon in the Capital on June 28.

After a spell of light showers late last night, the Capital was this afternoon lashed by moderate showers.

The showers, which followed an overcast sky since last night, brought down the mercury in the city by several degrees, providing respite to people from the warm and humid conditions they had been experiencing over the last three to four days.

The minimum in the city dropped to 27.5 Degrees,, one degree below normal, while the maximum dropped to 34 Degrees, three degrees below normal.

Though only about 30 mm of rainfall was recorded since last night upto 1730 hrs today, the rain led to water-logging and traffic jams in many areas, including Chandni Chowk and Model Town.

Some of the areas from where complaints had been received were Kingsway Camp and Corner point of Kauria Pul near Old Delhi Railway Station.

At some places in the walled city, there were complaints of falling of trees.

The rainy spell is expected to continue with weathermen forecasting a generally cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours and likelihood of a few spells of rain and thundershowers, some of them heavy.

After the first monsoon showers hit Delhi on June 28, a day ahead of their scheduled date, the city had been experiencing a dry spell with the sunny conditions and high humidity leaving the people sweltering.
