Minister lauds NGO for starting first law college

Itanagar, July 3 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh Education Minister Tatar Kipa today decided to issue legal notice to 52 SSA teachers of his department drawing stipends and book grants as students.

While inaugurating the administrative block of St Thomas Institute of Legal Studies(SILS), the first law college of the state, he highlighted this issue, while he said, ''Some teachers had been befooling the school education department.'' Mr Kipa lauded the role of R K Mission and Catholic Missionaries for spreading the light of education in the far-flung areas of this remote state and wished all success to the new venture of Loyola Charitable Trust-India.

He said that the entire Nyishi community had a poor literacy rate of 16 per cent, while the Kurung Kumey district was at the bottom of literacy graph with hardly 12 per cent, of which the Catholic Missionaries contributed to around five per cent.

Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan (SSA), he said, had helped in creating infrastructure and massive employment in the state.

Higher and technical education director and executive member of SILS governing body Dr Joram Begi, in his presidential address, said that too much politicking is not in the interest of the state.

Disclosing that the state government had granted permission and Rajiv Gandhi Central University had given provisional affiliation, Dr Begi said that the mandatory permission from Bar Council of India had also been sought.

He, however, urged the college management to maintain professionalism and missionary zeal and refrain from commercialism.

With the Supreme Court directive to bifurcate judiciary from the executive, the products of this college would meet the requirement for legal professionals in the state, she added.
