Khatkar Kalan to be upgraded as Centre of Excellence
Chandigarh, July 3 (UNI) The Punjab Government today decided to upgrade Shaheed Bhagat Singh ITI at Khatkar Kalan as Centre of Excellence for Chemical Research.
At an official meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here this morning, the state government also sanctioned Rs 15 crore for the purpose and set in motion the process of recruitment of 780 instructors.
The recruitment process would be completed by August 10.
An orientation-cum-training programme for potential emigrant workers would also be started from this centre as Doaba region, where this centre is located is known as nursery of emigrant workers.
The Chief Minister also sanctioned Rs two lakh for providing uninterrupted power supply to this centre of excellence.
Emphasising the need for industry specific training in ITI's, the Chief Minister directed the listing of all ITI's which could be converted into centre of excellence for specific industries.
Seeking the cooperation of the industry in making this venture a success, the Chief Minister said that industry was facing the problem of lack of trained staff whereas youth trained by ITI's were unemployed. He said it was imperative for industry to train the youth according to their requirements and become an active partner in this venture.
