Karnataka HC asks govt hasten reservation for urban local bodies
Bangalore, July 3 (UNI) The Karnataka High court today directed the state government to complete the process of providing reservtion by rotation to all wards in Urban local bodies by this month end.
Granting extension of time on an application from the State Election Commission, Mr.Justice K.Sridhar Rao and Mr.Justice Subhash Adi said the State shall not seek any further extension of time in this regard.
The State Election Commission bringing to the notice of the court that inspite of nine weeks time granted by the court to the State Government as required by it, the government had not yet completed the process and thereby not complied with the direction of the court. It was further stated that as per the direction of the court the State Election Commission was required to issue Notification immediately after the completion of the said process.
The Advocate General appearing on behalf of the State submitted that the process of providing reservation by rotation was complete in respect of 180 local bodies and the same had to be yet completed with regard to about 27 local bodies. The court granted time in view of this submission.
