Insurance cover for cops in extremists affected area

Patna, July 3 (UNI) The Bihar government has decided to provide an insurance cover of Rs ten lakhs each to the police personnel posted in the extremist-affected districts of the state.

Official sources said here today that the new insurance policy would be in addition to the existing compensation of Rs ten lakhs to the police personnel killed in extremist attacks.

The sources said that the government had already obtained permission from the Centre for the scheme under which the special task force functioning in the state were enjoying the insurance cover.

The government was negotiating with different insurance companies to provide insurance cover to the cops in the naxalite-affected areas.

The government would hold a high level meeting tomorrow at the state headquarter to discuss the issue and decide the strategy to counter the extremists attacks.

The meeting would be attended by the top police officers and representatives of the Central intelligence.

The state government had already sent a detailed report of the Maoist attack to the Centre, official sources said.

Some of the major attacks of the Maoists which rocked Bihar since 2005 were: June 5 - Munger Police Superintendent killed in extremists attack.June 23- Attack in Madhuban of West Champaran, firearms of police and banks were looted.

June 13- Jehanabad Jail break, Maoists made a series of attacks on Jehanabad jail, civil lines and on the residence of the district and sessions judge to free their colleagues lodged in Jehanabad jail.

Some of the major the incidents since 2006 were: December 30- Maoists observed violent bandh in North Bihar.

The incidents in 2007 were: March 21- Attack on Rega police station in Sitamarhi district.

April- Four police personnel killed in an attack in Jamui district.

June 18-Maoists imparted training in a camp in Rohtas.

June 19-Maoists attack on Bagh express near Sonepur.

June 26-27-Successful economic blockade of Maoists.

June 29-Attack in Jamui in which a tractor driver was killed.

June 30-Ten killed inclduing seven police personnel in an attack on Rajpur police station and on the Baghela outpost in Rohtas district.

July 1-Attack on CRPF camp at Madanpur in Gaya district.
