HC asks govt to hasten reservation for urban local bodies
Bangalore, July 3 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today directed the state government to complete the process of providing reservtion by rotation to all wards in Urban Local Bodies by end of this month.
Granting extension of time on an application from the State Election Commission (SEC), Justices K Sridhar Rao and Subhash Adi said the state shall not seek any further extension of time in this regard.
Bringing to the notice of the court the fact that the government having not yet completed the process and thereby not complied with the court direction despite the nine-week time granted to it by the court, the SEC said as per court directive, the Commission was required to issue notification immediately after the completion of the said process.
Appearing on behalf of the state, the Advocate General submitted that the process of providing reservation by rotation was complete in respect of 180 local bodies and the same were yet to be completed with regard to about 27 local bodies. The court granted time in view of this submission.
