HC asks for explanations for not making cops acucused in Parkar case
Mumbai, July 3 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today asked the Anti-Corruption Bureau to explain as to why senior police inspector Anil Mahabole and Assistant police inspector Rajendra Nikam were not made accused in a case relating to alleged extortion in which underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's sister Haseena Parkar has also been implicated.
Acting on a petition filed by one of the accused in the extortion case Sandeep Shukla, seeking CBI investigation in the case, a division bench comprising Justice R M S Khandeparkar and Justice V K Tahilramani directed the concerned officers from the ACB to remain present in the court tomorrow.
Anti-extortion cell of the Mumbai police has registered an FIR against Haseena Parkar and seven others including the petitioner and his uncle Baba Shukla, pursuant to a complaint filed by real estate broker Vinod Avlani.
Avlani has alleged in the complaint that he had paid Rs one crore to the Shuklas for two Slum Rehabilitation Projects. But when Avlani demanded back his money seeing that the projects are not materialising, Rs 30 lakhs were retained by Haseena and his men as extortion amount.
Shuklas had filed a complaint with crime branch last year related to this episode, which was handled by Mahabole and Nikam. It is alleged that instead of acting on the complaint, Mahabole and Nikam had asked the warring parties to settle the case amicably and had demanded Rs 10 lakh as their share. One of the accused Chandresh Shah was arrested while accepting 1.50 lakh on behalf of the police officers by ACB.
