Haneef quiet and meritorious student: RGHU

Bangalore, July 3 (UNI) Mohammed Haneef, detained in Brisbane last night for his suspected involvement in the terror plot to detonate car bombs in London and Scotland was a quiet and meritorious student while he was studying medicine in B R Ambedkar College in the city, according to Rajiv Gandhi Health University(RGHU) Registrar, Sachidanand.

Dr Haneef, graduated in medicine from RGHU here and lived with his mother and sister in a house in Pillanna Gardens in the city, till he completed his studies in 2002.

RGHU Registrar Dr Sachidanand said records showed that Dr Haneef hailed from the small town of Mudigere in Chikmagalur district.

He had lost his father before he came to Bangalore, after gaining a Government seat to study medicine.

Dr Ambedkar Medical College Principal, Dr Ramesh said Dr Haneef was a silent but bright student and passed every exam during the course by scoring good marks.

Police officials said they had no records on Dr Haneef in any of the police stations, including K G Halli police station, under which, Pillanna Garden falls.

It was, however, unknown, what Dr Haneef was doing, after passing out of the college in 2002, before he joined Gold Coast Hospital in Brisbane last year. Since he was recruited from Liverpool in England, it was believed that the doctor lived in Britain during that time.
