Four drown in swollen river

Aizawl, July 3 (UNI) Four people have drowned in the swollen Tuivawl River, about 100 km north-east of Aizawl, since Saturday.

The first tragedy took place on Saturday when Lalrammuana, 39, of the nearby Satual village, drowned in the river.

Three other persons met a similar fate while searching for his body yesterday.

While the bodies of Lalrammuana and Zohermawia were recovered on Monday evening, search was on for the other two.

The police and the villagers of Saitual and its surrounding areas took part in the search operation.

Incessant rain had caused the river to swell, making it difficult for the rescue team.

Food Minister K Sangthuama and Saitual MLA R Lalzirliana had rushed to the spot to help the searchers with rations and other materials.
