Flood threat in 30 MP villages

Badwani(MP), July 3 (UNI) Water-level of Narmada river was on the rise due to moderate to heavy rains in western Madhya Pradesh threatening to inundate at least 30 villages in Badwani district today.

With water level touching 123 metre, just half metre below the danger mark, at Rajghat bridge near here at 1100 hours, the district authorities had alerted residents of the nearby 30 villages to move to 12 relief camps, official sources said.

Road traffic remained disrupted with the flood water flowing above culverts at many places. About 30 feet section of Badwani-Bavangaj road was also washed away.

About 30 cm rainfall has been recorded so far though the monsoon had a delayed start on June 30.

Meanwhile, death toll in rain-related incidents in the district rose to 3 with a 11-year-old boy Baluram being washed away in a swollen nullah in Pati police station area on Sunday. His sister, who was also washed away was however saved. Thwo more lives were also claimed by the flood water.
