DGP orders stringent action for dereliction of duty

Lucknow, July 3 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Vikram Singh today ordered officials to take stringent action against those found guilty of providing any help to undertrials.

While addressing a meeting, Mr Singh ordered all the senior officials to take strict action against policemen appointed on 'scort duty' if found accused of laxity.

He said strict vigil should be maintained on the hardcore criminals while shifting them from one jail to another and only policemen with sound health and built should be appointed as scorts.

Also, thorough frisking of the criminals should be done before lodging them into jail, he added.

The DGP further instructed his officials to avoid taking the accused to any hotel, hospital or guest house, while scorting them for hearing and avoid eating eatables, if offered by them.

To avoid any untoward incident, he gave the proposal of appointing a gazzeted officer as observer during the scort duty.

Taking note of the problems of mobile users of not being able to call at 100 and 101 from their cell phones, Mr Singh said these numbers are for the safety and security of the public and thus, service providers should be asked to provide these services at the earliest.
