Naga: Crucial CFMG meet on ground rules execution

Kohima, July 03: With the term of current cease-fire between the Government of India (GoI) and the NSCN-IM due to expire on July 31 next, a crucial meeting of the Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG) was held at Dimapur yesterday to discuss various issues pertaining to implementation of the Cease-fire Ground Rules.

According to official sources here today, the meeting took place between the CFMG, constituted by the GoI under the Chairmanship of Lt Gen (Retd) R V Kulkarni and the Cease-Fire Monitoring Cell (CFMC) of the NSCN-IM, Maj Gen K S Sethi, Director General of Police J Chankija, Second Commandant of CRPF Ajay Mishra, Special Secretary (Home) Z Lotha, Among Yimchunger, Member, John Anal, Secretary and Neituo Angami, Member.

Talking to newsmen after the meeting Gen Sethi said that the CFMG had been pressing both the rival NSCN groups to avoid confrontation and expressed his partial happiness over the move of the NSCN cadres towards their respective designated camps.

Terming the development as 'very positive', he said there was evidence from both the NSCN factions of having retreated back to their designated camps.

On the persisting tension at Phek town, the district headquarters of Phek, he informed that the CFMG had instructed the NSCN-IM to pull out from civilian areas of Phek town.

He also maintained that the Assam Rifles is a neutral force and rubbished the claims of both NSCN factions of being biased.

Mr Shimrang maintained that NSCN-IM had been confined to the designated areas and that the GoI should be more realistic and sincere while enforcing the ground rules, but some of their cadres had to move out of the camps when the rival factions create an adverse situation.

The NSCN-IM was open to any public initiative aimed at ushering solution, he said.
