CPI (M) activists assault teacher in Tripura

Agartala, Jul 03 (UNI) A school teacher was assaulted during duty hour allegedly by the ruling CPI (M) activists in Bagan Bazar area of West Tripura yesterday.

According to report, a teacher-in-charge of Bagan Bazar High School was beaten up by two senior CPI (M) leaders when he asked for stopping the use of microphone as the students were appearing for the examination.

Kalyanpur Block administration was using high volume sound system in a nearby field of the school on the occasion of launching the programme under Rural Employment Guarantee Act (REGA) and of teacher requested the organisers to stop it.

They refused to accept the request and assaulted him in the school premise itself while registered a case against him stating that he was intoxicated.

Initially, police detained the teacher but released him immediately following the intervention of the students and other staff of the school.

Opposition Congress protested against the incident and demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits.
