BJP attacks Shivraj for issuing clean chit to Pak
New Delhi, July 3 (UNI) The BJP today flayed Home Minister Shivraj Patil's statement that Pakistan could not be blamed for infiltration and spurt in terrorist activities and expressed apprehension over issuing a clean chit to the country when ''ground realities were contrary to his remarks''.
BJP spokesman Prakash Javdekar said when Defence Minister A K Antony was describing infiltration into the country from across the border as a ''matter of concern'', Mr Patil's clean chit to Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf was ''ridiculous and astounding''.
He said 82 attempts of infiltration were detected in April this year, registering a three-fold increase from last year. Forty one militants were gunned down while trying to sneak into this side in June.
''It is very clear that infiltration cannot happen without the involvement and active cooperation of the Pakistan Army as the Line of Control is guarded at all points,'' the spokesman said.
Mr Javdekar said the statement of the Home Minister reflected that he was indulging in 'praise game' when the situation warranted 'blame game'.
On violence perpetrated by CPI-M cadres in Nandigram in West Bengal, the BJP spokesman said the villagers were in the grip of state-sponsored terrorism. The death of landless labours in Singur due to hunger only highlighted the anti-people and anti-poor policies of the CPI-M, he said.
