Barak rivers rise as Brahmpautra basin steadies
Guwahati, Jul 3 (UNI) The flood situation in the Brahmaputra basin improved with the river flowing above danger level in Dibrguarh only, though the Barak and its tributaries continued to rise.
A Central Water Commission(CWC) bulletin informed that the Brahmaputra was flowing above the danger level at Dibrugarh. Against the danger level of 104.24 mt, it was flowing at 104.66 and displayed a steadying trend.
The river was maintaining a steady or a falling trend at all other places, including Neamatigaht, Guwahati and Tezpur.
The Subansiri river was displaying a rising trend at North Lakhimpur, the CWC bulletin said, though it was flowing below the danger level.
The Kopili river at Dharamtul received heavy rainfall of 56.6 mm, though it was still flowing well below the danger level.
On the other hand, the Barak and its tributaries showed a rising trend. The Barak, Sankosh, Katakhal and Kushiyara rivers were all displaying a rising trend, though they are yet to cross the danger marks.
Meanwhile, a state government release yesterday informed that rescue and relief operations were on in the areas affected by the first flood wave of the season.
Over 2.65 lakh people have been affected in 377 villages in nine districts till now. Altogether 25 camps have been set up and 1116 quintals of rice, 186 quintals of dal and 31 quintals of salt distributed.
A total of 6,285 hectares of crop area have been affected in the first wave, the release added.
