Trade union culture not good in IT sector: Infosys Chief
Thiruvananthapuram, July 2 (UNI) Infosys Technologies CEO and MD Kris Gopalakrishnan today opined that trade union culture was not a good tendency in the IT sector.
Inaugurating the website of the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club here, he said encouraging trade union activities would be harmful to the sector.
Pointing out that the country's prospects in the IT sector was increasing day by day, he cautioned that the trade union culture would hamper country's emerging opportunities.
If there had any labour issue in the IT sector it should be solved through creative discussions, Mr Gopalakrishnan suggested and said perception and image of the IT sector was a vital factor for its growth.
''It may not affect the industry, but there would be change in the perception and image of the industry if trade unions are introduced,'' he said.
Stating that the IT sector was a well-paid industry and employees were happy, he wanted to know the reason for trade unions in the sector.
Mr Gopalakrishnan said about a million people were working in the IT sector, which was growing fast and was generating two to three lakh jobs every year.
Welcoming the Centre's move to abolish tax holidays in the IT sector, the Infosys Chief said all companies have to pay tax.
Pointing out that one problem faced by the industry was shortage of engineers, he said the need of the hour was to improve the quality of the educational system.
''If there is a drop in quality, then it is a cause of worry,'' he added.
