Makwana urges people to change their attitude towards SC
Mysore, July 2 (UNI) Former Union Minister and AICC Scheduled Castes Cell President Yogendra Makwana today urged the people to change their attitude towards the SCs and STs and the other weaker sections of society in the larger interest of the country.
Inaugurating a day-long conference of Mysore City Congress SC Cell here, he said, only SCs are not Dalits but the Dalits include STs and OBCs, including minorities and other weaker sections, which have been deprived of their rights.
''Only Congress has been supporting such people and the government has been making special programmes for such classes for their uplift so they can join the main stream of life in the country.'' he said.
Lashing out at UP Chief Minister Mayawati for diluting the ideology of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) he, said the BSP was no longer a party of Dalits and the downtrodden. It has become a party of Brahmins in the garb of Dalits. She is merely posing as a dalit Chief Minister, he observed.
Mr Makawana asked the Dalits to create leaders from villages to New Delhi level and support the party which has been striving hard to safeguard them.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramiah, former Union Minister V Sreenivasa Prasad, former ministers H Vishwnath, M Shivanna, Tanveer Sait and other leaders, who spoke on the occasion, criticised the government and Chief Minister H D Kumarswamy for condemning the Congress, stating that the party had done nothing for the people.
