Indo-Th agreement to collaborate in showcasing Indian jewelleries

Kolkata, Jul 2(UNI) The Board of Trade of Thailand has entered into an agreement with Indian Jem&Jewellery Promotion Council to collaborate in jewellery making, manufacturing and showcasing Indian jewelleries in international markets.

Speaking to UNI today, Committee on Gems&Jewellery Business (under Board of Trade of Thailand) Chairman Vichai Assarasakorn said, '' We will promote Thai jewellery in India and Indian jewellery abroad.'' Both the countries would also collaborate in areas like jewellery making, setting up of manufacturing units and so on.

''A number of Thailand based jewellery companies are interested to set up shops in India,'' Mr Assarasakorn said adding that they intend to start with Mumbai as it is the business hub of the country.

Diamond India Ltd, a forum of daimond traders with an annual turnover of US $ one billion, is also in the process of joining hands with Thai Colourstone Limited to form a sydicate for promoting ruby in India.

''We are firming up plans to organise roadshows in the major metros like Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore to find partners for our jewellery business in India,'' he said.

About 18 Thai companies would participate in a jewellery exhibition in Mumbai, he said.

India and Thailand had a bilateral trade of US $ 3.4 billion in 2006, which is expected to touch US $ 4 billion in 2007.

The items which are exported from India to Thailand are diamonds, jewellery, gold, metal etc.

Mr Assarasakorn is part of a Thai delegation visiting major Indian cities. The delegation would visit jewellery SEZ "Manikanchan" in the city tomorrow.
