Lucknow, July 2 (UNI) The Samajwadi Party today alleged that the Government Order (GO) to register First Information Reports (FIR) against the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav regime was ''politically motivated'' to harass people of a particular community.

Raising the issue during the zero hour through an adjournment motion in the state assembly, SP leader Ambika Choudhury said the entire process of lodging of FIRs of crimes which took place during the last three and a half years was an attempt by the BSP government to target SP leaders and workers besides harassing a particular community.

The house also witnessed heated exchange when the members of the treasury bench and the SP traded charges against each other over the law and order situation in the state.

Mr Choudhry, reading out section 154 of the CrPC, said there were several procedures to register FIRs under the law with even sending a letter to the Police Superintendent.

He also took the name of several senior SP leaders including Mohammad Azam Khan Sishupal Singh Yadav, Banwari Singh Yadav and former speaker Dhaniram Verma against whom fake criminal cases have been registered recently.

Contradicting the charges, state parliamentary affairs minister Lalji Verma said GO to register cases of past three and a half year were issued following large scale complaints of people that they were being denied lodging of FIRs in the past regime.

''There is no effort of a political revenge but criminal can not be saved through political affliation also'', he said.

Later, speaker Sukhdeo Rajbhar rejected the adjournment motion.
