Ex-UP Minister Azam Khan booked for 'issuing life threats'

Bareilly, July 2 (UNI) Former Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Minister and senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mohd Azam Khan been charged with ''issuing life threats'' and land encroachment in Madar Kohna area of Rampur district.

In his complaint late yesterday, one Zulfikar Khan accused Mr Khan of constantly threatening him and encroaching his agricultural land for construction of the New Tehsil building.

Besides Mr Khan, the then District Magistrate Mohd Mustafa, Tehsildar Shamshad Hussain and a Public Works Department executive engineer had been named in the FIR.

According to the information received from the IG office, Bareilly, the accused had been booked under section 109, 119, 120 (b), 226, 174, 177, 341, 192, 217, 431, 442, 447, 506, 383, 384, 389, 430 and 432 of IPC.

This is the fourth case registered against the former UP Minister in the last 17 days.

On June 14, Mr Khan was booked under breach of trust charges. An FIR was lodged after the seizure of 500 sewing machines and 400 blankets from the Rampur Samajwadi Party office allegedly purchased from the District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) funds.

On June 23, the SP leader was charged with assaulting villagers near the Mohd Ali Jauhar University in Rampur.

Later on June 29, Mr Khan was booked for illegally contruction a boundary wall and blocking way to the Mohd Ali Jauhar University.
