DUAC response delaying start of CW Games related Projs: WalIA
New Delhi, July 2 (UNI) Delhi Urban Development and PWD Minister A K Walia today expressed concern over the lukewarm response of the Delhi Urban Arts Commission in clearance of six Commonwealth Games related projects of the Public Works Department.
''The DUAC is sitting on these projects which have been diligently prepared by the PWD and approved by the DDA Sub-committee and DDA technical committee. The delay in clearance of projects would lead to cost escalation and Non-commissioning of projects before commencement of Commonwealth Games 2010,''Dr Walia said in a statement here.
''This may also cast apprehensions over the intentions of an elected government which is otherwise fully geared up to complete construction of all infrastructure needed to host Commonwealth Games,''Dr Walia said.
The Minister said the delay in clearance of projects, despite a green signal by the DDA, is also being discussed by the common man who has started raising eyebrows about the role of the PWD which infact, has been running pillar to post to get their projects cleared from the DUAC.
''This is becoming a cause of discouragement for the dedicated engineers and planners of the PWD,''Dr. Walia said adding that that out of 27 projects of the PWD, work on 15 projects has been started whereas files relating to 6 projects and 4 projects respectively were gathering dust in the DUAC and DDA.
The projects, for which clearance was held up in the DUAC include the Gazipur flyover, Apsara Border flyover, N.H. 24 link road, U.P link road, Nangloi flyover and Karkari mor flyover.
Dr Walia said the E-in-c and Chief Engineers of the PWD has been constantly pursuing the projects with the DUAC whereas he himself has been minutely and regularly monitoring all Commonwealth related projects.
