Cauvery basin reservoirs receive good inflows

Mysore, July 2 (UNI) The South West Monsoon in the Cauvery Basin Region continued to remain active with incessant rainfall lashing Kodagu, Hassan and Mysore districts for the past one week, resulting in increased water levels.

The Meteorological Department forecasted normal monsoon in the region for the period from July to September. Wet conditions would prevail in with occasional sunny weather.

Heavy rainfall in the Cauvery catchment area in Kodagu brought increased inflow into Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir, the main dam across the river in Karnataka, near here.

The level which was hovering at a low of 67 feet during the third week of June, today stood at 92.60 feet against the full capacity of 124.80 feet.

The inflow was at 43,489 cusecs white the outflow stepped up to 14,330 cusecs.

Both the Kabini and Harangi Reservoirs in the basin have also reported good inflows following the rainfall in the catchment areas.

The Kabini level today was 2,277.13 feet against the maximum level of 2,284 feet with inflow of 26,695 cusecs and outflow of 9,026 cusecs, while the Harangi level read 2,841.49 feet against full capacity of 2,259 feet.

Similarly, the Hemavathy reservoir in Hassan District also received heavy inflows with water level at 2,294 feet against the maximum of 2,922 feet. However, the quantum of rainfall have reduced today.

The Hassan administration put losses due to rain fury in the last three days at Rs 2 crore taking the total loss to Rs 15 crore during this monsoon.

In Kodagu, the losses were estimated at Rs 11.50 crore.
