Andaman introduces scheme to preserve dying art forms
Port Blair, Jul 02 (UNI) Andaman and Nicobar Administration has decided to introduce Guru-Shishya Parampara,a government scheme, in the archipellago to preserve dying art forms of the region, officials said today.
Through the Eastern Zonal Cultural Center the islands administration is all set to implement a scheme titled Guru-Shishya Parampara with the support and guidelines of the Central Ministry of Culture, to preserve and promote rare and vanishing art forms and train young talented artist under an eminent Guru.
" In this connection, our department has invited applications from eminent gurus who are working for the preservation of absolutely dying folk dance and art forms such as painting, sculptor, handicrafts etc for onward submission to Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre," said Mr Lucas Robert, the Director of Sport Arts and Culture Department in Andaman.
Talking to newspersons, he said under the scheme, two eminent gurus will be identified for the dying art form and under him four pupils would be trained for a period of 9 months for 2007-08 on payment of a specified honorarium.
