7729 died in 3 years in road accident in Orissa

Bhubaneswar,Jul 02 (UNI) Road accidents in Orissa have claimed 7729 lives in three years from 2004 to 2006,Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik informed the Assembly today.

In a written reply to a question of BJD member Bikram Keshari Burma, he said the number of road accidents and casualties are on the rise every year.

He said during 2004-2006 as many as 22,590 motor accidents were registered in the state claiming lives of 7729 people and grievously injuring 12417. During the period 16,931 people also sustained simple injuries in the accidents.

The chief minister said while 2453 people were killed in 2004, their number rose to 2531 during 2005 and 2745 in 2006.

He said in the 2006-2007 financial year, 7847 accidents were reported in which 2784 were killed and 4338 injured critically besides, 5748 reported simple injuries.
