Warm, humid conditions in Delhi, mercury rises to 37.3 deg C

New Delhi, June 30 (UNI) Two days after South West Monsoon hit Delhi, a day earlier than its scheduled date of arrival, warm and humid conditions left Delhiites under a sweat even as rains eluded the city after the first spell of the Monsoon showers on Thursday.

After coolness in the Delhi air brought about by the first Monsoon showers two days ago, a dry weather and a rise in humidity to 87 per cent today left people sweltering in the national capital, resulting in an increase in maximum temperature to 37.3 degrees Celsius, dampening the euphoria over the onset of the Monsoon rains.

The Monsoon may have arrived in Delhi two days ago, but the city is yet to recieve bountiful rainfall, experiencing a dry spell since yesterday.

The dry spell could, however, be over soon with the weather office forecasting an increase in rainfall activity in the coming days due to the formation of a fresh low pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal early next week.

''Though isolated rainfall was likely in Delhi and other plains of Northwest India during the next 24 hours, the intensity of the rainfall could increase thereafter,'' the weather office said.

The met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky during the next 24 hours with thundry development likely in some areas.
