Three villages marooned in Kolhapur dist as rains continue unabated
Kolhapur, Jun 30 (UNI) Three villages in Shirol tehsil of this district have been marooned due to the rising levels of Krishna, Warna and Panchganga rivers following incessant rains that have been lashing the district since the past 24 hours.
District collectorate sources today said Rajapur, Rajapurwadi and Khidrapur in Shiroli tehsil have been marooned and as many as 54 villages have been affected partly due to flood water.
Traffic on Kolhapur-Konkan route via Gaganbavada tehsil of this district has been suspected following landslide in Karul ghat and Bhuibavada ghat section, sources said. Traffic on Kolhapur-Ratnagiri national highway has been disrupted due to Kadavi river water on the road near Neele village in Shahuwadi tehsil.
Besides this, internal traffic on about 60 routes, mostly in rural areas including few State highway connecting Gargoti, Gadinglaj and other towns was also disrupted due to spate in river and nullah water on these routes, they said.
However, no untoward incident has been reported from these areas.
All rivers including the main Panchaganga river has been continuously overflowing since yesterday due to the incessant rains lashing the district since Thursday evening, while water level of various irrigation dams has been rising speedily following heavy rainfall in the dam's catchment areas.
Gaganbavada tehsil recorded a highest of 286 mm rainfall, while Shirol tehsil received 45 mm rainfall, lowest in the district in the past 24 hours, ending at 0800 hrs today.
Kolhapur district received an average rainfall of 119.17 mm rainfall during the same period.
District administration is taking all steps to prevent any eventuality, sources added.
